In this week’s chapter, Kerry discusses the clothing in her closet, both what she’s given away and what remains. She makes a connection between the clothes that we wear and who we are as people. As an example, she cited her school principal once telling her that all who wore the school’s uniform represented the school even when not on school property. Kerry carries this idea over to the popular hymn ‘They’ll know we are Christians by our love.’
Clothing has always been a means of self expression whether via skinny jeans or a religious habit. I’ve never personally been big into clothes or cared about fashion, but we should probably care about what our clothing says about us. Right now part of my closet would reveal that I’m pregnant.
For your reflection:
What do your clothes say about you?
What do the attitudes or facial expressions you ‘wear’ tell others?
