This half-day workshop is designed for all who provide care for others.  Caregivers are often very selfless, sometimes to the point of forgetting to care for themselves.  We will explore a variety of ways that caregivers can engage in self-care and why its important to do so.

Meditation with Kathy Reardon


Kathy Reardon, RN, MS is a spiritual director in practice at the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center.
In addition, as a holistic nurse, she helps people dealing with illness, pain, and life stresses through teaching practices that enhance one’s own natural healing capacities.  Among these are Centering Prayer and Meditation.  Kathy has been commissioned by Father Thomas Keating of Contemplative Outreach Ltd to teach the method of Centering Prayer.

Nutrition with Erin Good


Erin Good received her Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics and a Spanish minor from Iowa State University. She completed a 12-month dietetic internship at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Illinois and St. Jude Affiliate in Peoria, Illinois. Erin has worked with clients having diabetes, heart disease, gastric bypass and seeking weight management. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Erin is passionate about guiding, motivating and helping others achieve a happy, healthy lifestyle.

Massage therapy with Karmen Buchhop


Karmen Buchhop is a LMT and owns and operates Achieving Inner Peace Massage Therapy office in Waukee, Iowa. In her early twenties, Karmen found massage therapy to play a major part in her healing.  Finding massage to be so much more than a luxury, but rather a necessity, she became a Licensed Massage Therapist to help others. She works with a passion of seeing every person obtain ultimate healing.  Everybody is unique, with a blueprint all its own, therefore each massage session is designed specifically for the receiving client, using a variety of massage modalities.

Aromatherapy with Stacy Halbach


Stacy Halbach, wife to Matt and mom to 4 children, has her degree in Theology and loves to share the connection between Jesus’ love for us and how Scripture teaches us to pray, including the use of essential oils. These oils, mentioned in scripture hundreds of times, are used in the Holy Anointing oils prescribed to Moses in Exodus, all the way to anointing Jesus’ feet days before his crucifixion. Stacy will share how using essential oils in our own prayer life can calm, sooth, comfort and make hearts glad!

Comedy from Willie Farrell


Willie Farrell has headlined every major comedy club in the nation including the Funny Bone and Improv franchises. He has performed on the Norwegian Cruise Lines as well as spent lots of time on stages in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. He has appeared on A&E, ESPN, Comedy Central and had his own stand up special on Showtime…The Godfathers of Comedy.

Randy Kiel, M.A, is the founder of Kardia Counseling.  Randy is a licensed mental health counselor with a private practice of psychotherapy and counseling in central Iowa.  With more than twenty years of  clinical experience, Randy has spent over 40,000 hours sitting with people to learn how to care for them and their needs.   Randy has been married for more than 30 years and has 4 children.
