As Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s easy to get caught up in the candy and hearts without remembering what we’re celebrating: real love, which is costly sometimes. Real love has nothing to do with flowers or the color red; it’s about selflessness and giving. These days we are inundated with charitable organizations seeking help and volunteers. So often I hear people say that it’s “someone else’s job” to help. I’ve even said it myself a few times. Unfortunately, it’s this very attitude that stops love from reaching those in most need. In this song, Nickelback is not asking everyone to join five committees or give away their life savings. They just wonder what it would be like “…if everyone loved and nobody lied.” Such little things make a big difference. They don’t take much effort, but their effects can and will change the world.
