Call to Conversion

A fellow parishioner at Jane’s church is organizing a pilgrimage to Medjugorje where the Blessed Mother has been appearing.  She invites Jane, but Jane is concerned the experience would draw her outside of her comfortable routine.  It might call her to a personal conversion and she’s content with her status quo.  Jane and her husband receive their tax refund a few months later and it’s the exact amount that the trip would cost.

I think if we’re honest with ourselves, we could all identify times when God has been calling us to something greater.  Personally, I have occasionally taken God up on His suggestions and many times turned Him down.  The times I’ve said, “No thanks” were most always out of fear.  The instances I said, “Yes” were challenging but have proven to be the most fruitful decisions in my life.  In this New Year, I pray that God gives us the strength to say “yes” to Him and step out of our comfortable boats.

  1. What change, conversion, or experience is God calling you to, and what is your answer?
  2. If your answer is “no thanks”, what are you afraid of?
