If I didn’t know better, I’d think that Martina McBride was personal friends with Mother Theresa based on the words in this song. Many are familiar with Mother’s famous quote about how we can spend lots of time doing good only to have it all torn down, but that we should do the good anyway. Martina takes this concept and sets it to music in a beautiful explanation about one of the greatest difficulties of the Christian life. So often we pour our heart and soul into something with the best of intentions only to have it not turn out the way we planned. This doesn’t mean that we’ve failed, but that we’re still disciples on the journey. Most people don’t win a game of Jenga on their first attempt, but they get better every time they play. May we never forget that every attempt we make in life that fails is not a waste, but one more step along the way.
