Our Board
St. Joseph Educational Center is directed by a six-member board consisting of both clergy and education professionals. The board meets quarterly with SJEC staff to review center programs and services, as well as plan for future offerings.

St. Boniface Parish, Waukee
Fr. Vince Rosonke is presently the pastor of St. Boniface Church in Waukee, Iowa. He has been on the board for five years. Fr. Vince has served locally at Ss. John and Paul Parish in Altoona and Christ the King Parish in Des Moines. He has been a priest of the Des Moines Diocese for 36 years.

Dr. Cheryl Fournier, Director Evangelization and Adult Faith Formation
Diocese of Des Moines
Dr. Cheryl Fournier is the director of evangelization, adult faith formation and lay ecclesial ministry in the Diocese of Des Moines. She has been actively engaged in the work of faith formation for thirty plus years serving as a catechist, high school religion teacher and campus minister, parish catechetical leader, retreat minister, parish life coordinator, and for the past twelve years in diocesan ministry. Dr. Fournier is an active member of the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership and serves on several committees. She is also a member of the national task force for marketing and advocacy for the Alliance for Certification of Lay Ecclesial Ministers. Dr. Fournier has taught also taught at Wheeling Jesuit University and Creighton University and is a regular facilitator for the University of Dayton’s Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation.

Saints John and Paul Parish, Altoona
Fr. Tim Fitzgerald, pastor of Ss. John and Paul Parish since 2009, served on the staff of St. Joseph Educational Center from 1987-1993. Former director of adult faith formation and lay ministry formation for the Diocese of Des Moines, he was associate director of the Notre Dame Center for Pastoral Liturgy for six years.

Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Parish, Ankeny
Fr. Steve Orr has served as pastor of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Parish for the past seven years. He was the founding pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in West Des Moines in 1991. In addition, he has served as Chancellor, Vicar General, and Administrator of the Diocese of Des Moines and spent six years in seminary formation work at the North American College in Rome. He was ordained in 1974.

Dr. Jerry Deegan, President
Dowling Catholic High School, West Des Moines
Dr. Jerry Deegan is the President of Dowling Catholic High School. He has been in Catholic education for 40 years with 36 at Dowling Catholic. Before becoming president, Dr. Deegan was an English teacher, counselor, and assistant principal. He was also Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kansas for four years before becoming president of Dowling Catholic in 2000. Dr. Deegan and his wife Pat are members of St. Francis Parish in West Des Moines and have three grown children, all graduates of Dowling Catholic. Dr. Deegan is a member of the Governor’s Non-public Advisory Board, a board member of Iowa Association of Choice in Education, a board member of the National Catholic Educational Association Secondary Division, a board member of 1150 KWKY Catholic Radio, and a member of the Downtown Committee of the Des Moines Partnership.

Fr. Larry Hoffmann, Pastor
St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Ankeny
Fr. Larry Hoffmann is pastor of the newest parish in the diocese, St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, in the Western part of Ankeny. He was ordained May 29, 1971, and most recently served as pastor of St. Theresa Church, Des Moines. Fr. Hoffmann was appointed by Bishop Pates as the founding pastor of St. Luke’s parish on January 1, 2011. In August 2012, the parish had 160 registered families. Daily and 4:30 pm Saturday mass is held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Ankeny, where the parish office is located. Sunday liturgy is held at Ashland Ridge Elementary School in North Ankeny.
